01Who we are
Translocate ("Translocate", "we", "us") is a real-time chat, voice, and video platform operated by Sterango, based in the United States. These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of translocate.app, the Translocate web app, the Translocate desktop apps, and any related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
02Who can use Translocate
In shortYou must be at least 16. Some communities are 18+ and locked to adults.
You must be at least 16 years old to use Translocate. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up, and you agree to provide it truthfully. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 16, we will block it from the Service.
Some servers and channels are marked as adult (18+) spaces. If you are under 18, you may not join, view, or participate in them, and the Service will enforce that restriction automatically based on your date of birth.
You may not use the Service if you have previously been permanently banned from it, or if using it is prohibited under the laws that apply to you.
03Your account
In shortKeep your password safe; what happens on your account is on you.
You need an account to use Translocate. You're responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us right away at [email protected] if you think your account has been compromised.
Your username and profile must not impersonate other people, infringe anyone's rights, or be offensive or misleading. We may reclaim or rename accounts for these reasons.
04Rules of conduct
In shortBe a decent human. No illegal stuff, no harassment, no spam, no breaking things.
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- break any applicable law, or post content that is illegal where you or we are located;
- post or share content that sexualizes minors in any way — this results in immediate permanent removal and, where required, a report to authorities;
- Who can reach you. You can restrict direct messages to accepted friends only, from your settings. This applies to existing conversations as well as new ones.
- Blocking. You can block any other member from their profile. A blocked person cannot message you or send you a friend request, their messages are hidden from you, and any location sharing between you stops in both directions. They are not notified. Blocking is your own control and does not require a moderator; serious conduct should also be reported so we can act on it.
- harass, threaten, dox, or bully other users, or organize others to do so;
- share sexually explicit or graphically violent content outside spaces explicitly marked as adult (18+), or share it with minors anywhere;
- impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation with them;
- send spam, malware, phishing links, or unsolicited advertising;
- upload content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our infrastructure, or probe, scan, overload, or disrupt them;
- scrape the Service or collect other users' data without their consent;
- use location sharing to stalk, follow, monitor, or intimidate anyone, or pressure, trick, or coerce someone into sharing their location with you;
- evade a ban, suspension, or age restriction (including by creating new accounts).
Server owners and moderators may set additional rules for their own communities; you agree to follow those too while you're there.
05Your content
In shortYour stuff stays yours. You give us permission to host and show it — that's what a chat app is.
You keep all ownership rights in the messages, files, images, and other content you post ("Your Content"). To run the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, display, and reproduce Your Content — solely as needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service. This license ends when Your Content is deleted from the Service, except where limited copies are retained as described in our Privacy Policy (for example, in moderation reports).
You are responsible for Your Content. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share. We don't claim ownership of it, we don't sell it, and we don't use it for advertising.
06Location sharing
In shortOptional, 18+, and only with people you choose. Misusing it to track someone gets you removed.
The mobile app offers optional location sharing. It is off unless you switch it on, and it is available only to users aged 18 and over. You choose exactly who can see your location and at what precision, you can set a grant to expire automatically, and you can pause or revoke sharing at any time.
You agree to use it only to share your own location, and only with people you genuinely want to share it with. Using it to stalk, monitor, or control another person — or pressuring someone into sharing with you or into keeping sharing switched on — is a serious violation of these Terms and will result in removal from the Service. If someone is using this feature to harm or intimidate you, revoke their access in the app and contact us at [email protected].
Maps are provided by Google Maps, and your use of them is also subject to Google's terms. Location data is approximate by nature and depends on your device, its settings, and network conditions. It may be delayed, inaccurate, or unavailable. Do not rely on it for safety-critical or emergency purposes.
07Moderation & enforcement
In shortUsers can report content; staff can warn, remove content, or ban accounts. Staff access is logged.
Users can report messages that break these rules. When a report is filed, a snapshot of the reported message and surrounding conversation is preserved as evidence, even if the messages are later edited or deleted.
We may, at our discretion: remove or restrict content; issue warnings; temporarily deactivate or permanently ban accounts; remove users from servers; or remove entire servers — where we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated or to comply with law. Platform staff may review content, including direct messages, when investigating reports or suspected abuse; every such access is recorded in an internal audit log.
We don't pre-screen content and are not responsible for what users post, but we care about the health of the platform and act on what's reported to us.
08The service itself
In shortTranslocate is free and evolving. Features may change; we'll try not to surprise you.
Translocate is currently provided free of charge. We're actively building it, which means features may be added, changed, or removed at any time. We may also suspend or discontinue all or part of the Service; if we ever discontinue it entirely, we'll make reasonable efforts to give you notice and a chance to export what matters to you.
09Apps & software
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Translocate desktop apps for accessing the Service. The desktop apps update themselves automatically to keep you on a current, secure version. You may not reverse-engineer the Service except where the law expressly permits it.
10Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Translocate infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with: (1) a description and location (link or IDs) of the infringing material, (2) proof of your ownership or authority to act, (3) your contact information, and (4) a good-faith statement that the use is unauthorized. We will remove infringing material and may terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
11Termination
In shortYou can leave anytime. We can close accounts that break the rules.
You may stop using the Service or request deletion of your account at any time by contacting [email protected]. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if keeping the account active creates risk for us or other users. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (like content licenses for retained moderation records, disclaimers, and liability limits) survive it.
12Disclaimers & limitation of liability
In shortThe Service comes as-is, and our liability is limited — standard for a free service.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT CONTENT WILL NOT BE LOST.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Sterango's operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first contact us at [email protected] so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
14Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. If a change is material, we'll give notice — inside the app, by email, or on this page — before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. The "Effective" date at the top always tells you when they last changed.
