Delete your Translocate account

You can have your account and the data attached to it removed. Here is exactly how to ask, what disappears, and the small number of things we are obliged to keep.

Delete it yourself, in the app

You don't need to ask us, and you don't need to wait. Deletion is immediate and it happens from inside Translocate — on mobile, desktop or the web app:

  1. Open SettingsAccount. On mobile that's the You tab.
  2. Tap Delete account.
  3. Type your username to confirm, then enter your password. We ask for the password so that a borrowed or unlocked device can't destroy your account.

That's it — the account and everything listed below are removed straight away, and you're signed out. There is no undo and no grace period, so make sure you mean it.

If you own any spaces, the app tells you which ones before you confirm. Deleting your account deletes those spaces for everyone in them, along with their channels and content. If you'd rather the community survived, transfer ownership first.

If you can't get into your account

Locked out, or lost your password? Email us from the address your account is registered to — that's how we confirm the request is really yours — and we'll handle it for you.

[email protected]

Put “Delete my account” in the subject and include your username. We reply to confirm before anything is removed, and once you confirm it's carried out within 30 days, usually much sooner.

What is deleted

Delete some data without deleting your account

You do not have to close your account to remove the most sensitive thing we hold. In the app, under Location sharing, you can delete your entire location history at any time, and switching sharing off deletes your last recorded position immediately.

You can also delete individual messages, leave any space, and remove anyone’s access to your location without affecting the rest of your account.

What we have to keep

A small amount of material outlives a deleted account, because deleting an account cannot be a way to erase a record of harm to someone else:

  • Moderation records — reports, warnings and bans keep a snapshot of the username involved, detached from the deleted account.
  • Audit-log entries for administrative actions, for the same reason.
  • Messages other people reported, retained as evidence attached to that report rather than to you.
  • If an account was blocked for being under 16, we keep the email address so it cannot be re-registered until the person is old enough.
