Child Safety Standards
Our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), what we do to prevent it, and how to report it.

If a child is in immediate danger
Contact your local emergency services first. In the United States you can also report to the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678.

What is prohibited
Translocate has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. The following are forbidden anywhere on the service, including in private conversations and in communities marked 18+, and are not subject to any warning or second chance:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), in any form, including generated or altered imagery.
- Content that sexualizes a minor in any way, however stylised or implied.
- Grooming: building a relationship with a minor for sexual purposes.
- Sextortion, or any attempt to solicit sexual content from a minor.
- Trafficking, advertising, or facilitating the sexual exploitation of a minor.
- Directing a minor to sexual content, or seeking to arrange contact for sexual purposes.
Who is allowed to use Translocate
- 16 and over only. We ask for date of birth at sign-up. An account identified as under 16 is blocked from the service; its email is retained so it cannot simply be re-registered.
- Adult communities are 18+ and enforced by the server, not merely hidden in the interface. An under-18 account cannot join, read, or view an adult space even if given a direct link.
- Location sharing is 18+. The Nearby feature is unavailable to any account under 18, and is off by default for everyone else.
- Age tiers are recomputed daily, so an account gains or loses access as it crosses a birthday rather than at the moment it happened to sign up.
Reporting, in the app
Every message can be reported from the app itself, and “Child safety” is one of the reasons offered. A report captures a snapshot of the reported message and the surrounding conversation at the moment it is filed, so the evidence survives later editing or deletion by whoever posted it.
Users can also block any other member outright, which stops contact in both directions immediately, and restrict direct messages to accepted friends only.
How we respond
- Reports go to a queue reviewed by platform administrators.
- Confirmed CSAE results in immediate permanent removal of the account. There is no warning tier for this category.
- Reported content is retained rather than destroyed, so it remains available as evidence to the authorities.
- Every administrative action is written to an immutable audit log.
- When we obtain actual knowledge of apparent child sexual abuse material, we report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A, and preserve the associated material for the period the law requires.
Where we are still improving
We would rather state this plainly than imply protections we have not yet built. Translocate does not currently run automated hash-matching of uploaded images against known-CSAM databases. Detection today depends on user reports and administrator review. Automated scanning of every uploaded image, with automatic quarantine and an automatic case for review, is in active development, and this page will be updated when it is live.
